Coryza or Proving? That is the Question

cold

What happens if you use a remedy for too long.

17/12/1996 – Madame Geneviève S… from Furdenheim (F – 67117) shows me Irina, her three-coloured female cat, born in 1984. The cat was found and adopted, when a kitten. She had a coryza which she has kept ever since. As people know, Homeopathy is a soft and gentle medicine, unable to harm anybody and can be used by all lay people. In her books Mme S… had found the specific remedy for coryza. That’s why her cat gets Allium cepa 9 CH every day for the last two years!

Spontaneous Anamnesis

Irina is a gentle tyrant says her mistress. Her nose is sometimes stopped. There is a light discharge. She was chief over about ten cats. Today she is just second-in-command, because she let herself be commanded by a younger female cat. She eats well (industrial cat food) but doesn’t drink very often. She was already spayed when she came in. She sometimes has yellow crusts in her nose. She absolutely doesn’t cough. Sometimes she sneezes with projections. When she is really overloaded, nothing comes out, but even then she doesn’t cough. Usually the discharge is white, sometimes slightly yellowish.

She is a really affectionate cat, never revengeful, but calm and also very headstrong. ‘One cannot get her to change her mind.‘ says Mrs. S. When she was the chief, she used to team up with one of the males, a very mild and very strong one, who followed her to beat up the others. She likes dogs and is not afraid of them. It seems that she is afraid of leaving home?

Treatment

I immediately stoped the Allium cepa and looked at how to antidote this very likely pathogenetic medication.

According to Abdur Rehman, Nux-v antidotes All-c especially in case of coryza. Therefore I give immediately 2 granules Nux vomica 200 K.

Follow up

On 31/12/1996 a phone call tells me that Irina feels much better, but isn’t completely healed. One dose of Sulphur 7 CH should favour the organic cleansing. A look in my MacRepertory sustains this idea: Nux-v and Sulph at the highest degree stand between 25 remedies for oversensitivity and violent reactions on remedies.

On January 17th 1997 still by phone, I hear that Irina feels well but must still sneeze every now and then. I prescribe a last dose of Sulphur 5 CH and demand to be called, if within several days the cat isn’t completely healed. This phone call never arrives.

Remark

Today with some years more, a little more experience and a whiter beard, I ask myself if it wouldn’t have been wiser and as efficient to content myself with just stopping the Allium cepa.
