This was a case I chanced upon quite by accident. It was a 48 year old man, whom I have known to show himself as a very confident and cheerful person. He always spoke with his chin up, with an air of a sense of superiority. Tall and hefty in build, with smart features. Today he was a completely different person. He was in severe agony from a prolapsed pile. I happened to visit his house to see his mother, who was in the terminal stages of cancer. He sat there, very uncomfortably on the couch, in pain. He said, ‘ I don’t know what will happen of me tomorrow’. He told me of his pile that had suddenly developed, and that his surgery was scheduled in 24 hours, the next morning. He said, ‘ I can’t even bear an injection, operation is too much!’
I suggested he try Homeopathy, and that it would certainly help. He was more than willing. He came to see me in the clinic at 6 pm. I checked and found a prolapsed pile, blue and turgid, about 1 inch in diameter, and exquisitely tender. He howled like a child on the least touch. The pain and his fear pointed to Aconite and Ignatia. As I figured from the past history, he had been dependent on his mother for everything till date, i.e. till he was 45 yrs old! And now her illness was unbearable for him, but he had to be in charge of the home situation.
This was the ‘altered state of disposition ‘ in Dr.Hahnemann’s ‘ words.
As seen in the repertory chart, we see that the mind symptoms are most marked in Ignatia as in the patient. The physicals compete with Muriatic acid, Causticum, Pulsatilla and Ignatia. The inability to express his grief about the terminal illness of his mother, led me to Ignatia. So Ignatia 1CM it was, one single dose. Next morning, he called at 7 am, “The pile is gone, and my surgery is cancelled! You saved me from a catastrophe!” ‘It’s been 16 years since and he meets me to say, jovially, that he is still very much alive!
